Liverpool had conducted their business without a hitch this summer but now find themselves embroiled in an unwanted transfer saga.
Despite already splashing over £300 million ($405 million) on new recruits this summer, the Reds remain interested in wantaway Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak. They have already seen an official bid of £110 million ($145.7 million) plus add-ons rebuffed, with the Magpies holding firm in negotiations.
Isak appears to have no future at Newcastle after his recent public outburst in which he insisted there have been “broken promises”, although the Tyneside club have opened the door to his reintegration in their response to the Swede’s statement. He’s now in limbo and his dream move to Anfield looks increasingly unlikely as the transfer window draws to a close.
